Empowering students has to be one of the key components of our job. As a year 6 teacher, I am acutely aware of the need to ensure my students are equipped and confident for the next stage of their education.
The Living Gallery has been a hugely successful exhibition over the last few years at BPS and continues to allow students to independently publish their learning to a legitimate audience.
Students ‘become’ an explorer of their choice and just research this so much so that when visitors approach them in the ‘gallery’, they can spring to life and embody that explorer. And, with the responses shown by the students, they are capable of displaying a wealth of learning when giving this freedom.
Furthermore, in an interesting twist, the students not only became empowered in their learning but by creating a wholly digital experience requiring QR codes, iPads and Google Slides, students became the teachers as they helped their parents to negotiate the interactive side of the exhibition.
Since this blog is largely for self reflection, I feel it important to remember successful events I have worked on and this is one which I will hopefully have the fortune to share again in the future!
